A look into Singapore’s Swimming Pools: Locations, Accessibility and Booking Processes
Singapore offers a variety of options that cater to every family’s needs. From ActiveSG pools that are affordable and widely accessible, to SAFRA and country club pools with added perks for members, there is no shortage of choices. Many of these pools are conveniently located across the island and in most neighbourhoods, making it easy for you to find one close to home.
There are 24 swimming pools run by ActiveSG, which is under Sport Singapore. Pool locations are extremely convenient and often located in heartland residential areas. You can find the complete list of all pools here alongside their operating hours, phone number and exact address. The webpage also updates promptly should the swimming complex be closed due to upgrading works. The entrance fees for all the swimming complexes are extremely affordable, ensuring everyone can enjoy pool facilities. The rates are split between conventional swimming complexes and special feature swimming complexes and prices vary for age groups, weekdays and weekends. You can find the full list of rates on the activeSG website.
SAFRA Singapore has 6 outdoor swimming pools strategically scattered across Singapore. Although SAFRA pools are not considered public pools, the majority of Singaporean men are SAFRA members following National Service. All members are allowed to sign in up to 3 accompanying paying guests per day. Entry for members is free, while guests above the age of 5 and above 140cm in height will have to pay concessional or normal rates. Although the entrance fees is higher than activeSG pools, pool features at SAFRA may prove to be worth the entry, depending on your needs.
Country club pools in Singapore are home to various amenities and swim schools. Many boasts extremely beautiful environments and fancy facilities. Similarly, these pools are not public, however many allow for guests and even non-members to enter for an entrance fee. This fee is typically much steeper than that of ActiveSG and SAFRA rates, starting from $10 per entry on weekdays. Whilst less accessible, it is no surprise there are individuals who frequent these pools due to their stunning facilities.
Most pools operate within common hours, from early morning (6am onwards) to late evening, giving you the flexibility to fit swim sessions into your family’s schedule. Purchasing entrance passes has become more seamless with user-friendly platforms like the ActiveSG app and SAFRA membership systems, ensuring a smooth visit, with less time planning and more time enjoying the water.

Beyond their availability and convenience, some pools also carry a piece of Singapore’s history. For instance, the Toa Payoh Swimming Complex, one of our island’s older pools, holds historical significance as a venue for major sporting events in the past. These pools aren’t just places to swim, they’re part of Singapore’s community heritage. The Toa Payoh Swimming Complex is now undergoing a facelift, starting 31 October 2024, to be part of the new Toa Payoh Regional Sport Centre.

Swimming Smart: Essential Pool Etiquette and Rules for Families
Making the most of Singapore’s public swimming pools isn’t just about having fun – it’s also about following good pool etiquette and respecting the rules to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Whether it’s a casual dip or serious swim practice, understanding the guidelines can help you and your family enjoy pool day safely.
First and foremost, respecting lane designation is key. In local competition pools, lane markers are put in place to demarcate lanes set aside for swimming lessons, continuous lap swimming and leisure swimming. Understanding the different needs of recreational and competitive swimmers can go a long way in maintaining harmony in the pool. Recreational swimmers should enjoy themselves while staying clear of continuous lap swimming lanes so that others can focus on their swims without interruptions. Staying mindful of these zones helps avoid collisions and ensures a smoother flow in the pool, creating a positive experience for all pool users.
Safety always comes first, especially when kids are involved. Ensure your little ones do not run around the pool deck to prevent slips and falls and young children should always be supervised by an adult, even if shallow pools and play areas. Keeping an eye on your child not only ensures their safety but also promotes a positive experience for other pool users.
